I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right forum, I'm bipolar but suffering with overwhelming depression right now. The alternative treatment forum doesn't seem too active, so I thought maybe I'd have better luck here.

My pdoc pretty bluntly told me if this SAD lamp and his recent increase in my quetiapine doesn't help, the next step is the hospital.

So I'm wondering if you use or have used a SAD lamp, did it help your depression? And if it did help, how long did it take to notice an effect? Were there any side effects you noticed?

My doc is a fan of SAD lights. There are no side effects and definitely worth a try.

I'm doing really well on my SAD lamp after a bad depression/mixed episode. It worked quickly once I got the settings high enough. In the past I've used it 10 minutes at 25% intensity and this time I'm using it 15 minutes at 65% intensity. I think I was improving by day 3 or so, maybe even day 2.

I hope it helps you.

It helps me through bouts of SAD. It is useful as an adjunct to other treatments.

It's been awhile since I posted this, and I decided I would update. I have been using a SAD lamp daily for almost 2 months now I noticed my mood improving after a week using the lamp 30 min daily but I still had more "flats" than I'd like as well as anxiety. My pdoc suggested I increase my use to 1 hr a day. After doing that, wow! My mood has been pretty darn good, happy without being manic. I've had better concentration reading, and I've started to enjoy baking again. And I started drawing for the first time in over 20 years! Now I'm drawing daily and having fun with it. I really hope the lamp continues to help.
