So you would all get it at once and be done with it.

We didn't have a party but the neighbors grandaughter did come over because her mom wanted her to get it over with.

No. Certainly no parties.

Almost everyone got it but at different ages. I had it at 11. It was very bad. My daughter had it in first grade. Pretty mild case. It was weird because she went to day care and preschool and everyone got it then. She didn’t. My husband had his as an adult. He was in the army.

Your neighbor was insane. Who sends their children to the house with contagious people to get them sick
Thanks for this!

I guess maybe because the older you become without getting it the worse case of it you get. Idk.

I had a situation kinda like yours. My kind-of sister had it so my dad and his fellow-fathering crew had her come over and spend time with us kids. It was dumb, looking back. Like eating poison ivy to gain immunity haha what were we doing?

edit: apparently vodka and duct tape is also not the most ideal way to deal with deep lacerations either. Glad I wasn't a parent in the 90s (also glad I have access to therapy and birth control otherwise my arse today would probably get CPS called if I did a fifth of what seemed to be common back then)

Yes adults usually have it much more severe. I dated a guy once who had to stay in the hospital because he was so sick. He was in his 20s

Only poorly educated people do this. Educated people get vaccinated

Really? @Nammu

Educated people get vaccinated only if vaccine is available. Can’t vaccinate if it’s not there.

In my country of origin chicken pox vaccine was introduced in 2008. I’ve no idea when they licensed it in the states, obviously way before.

But there’s the whole entire world out there full of smart people with no access to what many people here take for granted.

Having said that, in my opinion sending kids to the house full of contagious people is borderline neglect, but possibly just due to lack of knowledge on the matter. Some people just don’t know any better. But what do I know. We used to tan all day every day with no sun screen etc had no idea. Live and learn

Yeah, I’m ppretty sure even my PCP (though to be fair he ain't the smartest either) at the time said it was a good idea and no one got a vaccine in 2000 or so.

(I won’t deny i was poorly educated before completing kindergarten though).

I got chickenpox in elementary school. I don't remember what grade but it was before I was 9. I do remember some of the other kids in my class being sent to sick classmates homes so that they'd as has been said, get it over with, but my mom wouldn't participate in that. i do remember being sent to play at one friend's house when he had it, as I'd already had it and so he couldn't infect me.

Did anyone have a chicken pox party?
