I am severely depressed and can't get out of bed. I lack motivation completely and am not able to do my daily tasks. I am already on antidepressants, but they are not helping. I feel very lonely as well.

Sorry you feel so low @MimiBhaduri0 - that sounds so challenging. There are no easy answers.
The first thing that comes to mind is eatin healthy foods as much as possible especially protein (brain food) and limiting carbohydrates and sugar. I do not know what works for you but I try claning a little corner of my room and that helps. A shower feels good when I allow it. Sometimes you just have to fake it and get out of bed
Also there is antipsychotic medicine, ect, ketamine, magnetic therapy, and DBT

Have you explored the possibility of ECT with your psychiatrist/doctor? It's often said to be very effective in cases where other medical interventions have failed. I have never taken it, as I have a history of seizures anyways which poses extra risks, but I might try it myself if I could.

Antidepressants do work, but they take time. I don't know if this is your situation, but people often wait until they are very depressed to seek treatment, which is the worst time to begin an antidepressant because they can make you feel worse before you begin to feel better.
I have suffered 5 severe episodes of depression in my lifetime. Epic struggles for survival. I have been so sick and so hopeless I never thought I would recover. My depressions took out huge chunks of my lifetime. 6 months down into the hole, and 18 months of digging back out. An episode every decade of my adult life. 10 years of my life was a daily battle with anxiety, insomnia, and depression. And those episodes shadowed the other 40 years of my adult life. Two things helped me turn the corner. I learned the etiology of my illness. I had a powerful temporal lobe seizure as a teen that left me with acute and chronic deficiencies. I was suffering from a rare and difficult to diagnose epileptic syndrome. "The worst case scenario is when the post ictal psychosis segues into an affective disorder of recurrent major depression." I was a worst case and I didn't realize it until I was 56 years old. I did have ECT in 2014. It was a game changer for me. It aborted another episode of major depression. It cleared up many of my symptoms and gave me a new lease on life. I now take only a small dose of an anti depressant as maintenance therapy. I don't need a psychiatrist. I know what gave me my mental illness. My past life is now in focus, and I'm living the best years of my life at age 71. |

I'm sorry you are feeling this awful. Loneliness can be the worst. It might even be what is driving the depression. How long have you felt this beaten down?

Several episodes of depression since 2014 and some intermittent episodes of psychosis as well. The severity and frequency increased when my online American boyfriend dumped me in 2019. I had found him here on chat.

In India the doctors refuse to do ect and magnetic therapy in depression. That's unfortunate.

A key to my relative recovery was an EEG. Through my own research, I identified the incident that left me mentally ill as an epileptic event. 40 years after that event at age 17, I had an EEG. I was told by a neurologist specializing in Epilepsy that I had significant pathology in my temporal lobe and that I was disabled at age 56 from an event which occurred when I was 17. Somehow I managed to survive the years in between.

It sounds to me like you don't have supportive family or friends. That alone can make anyone depressed. I'm pretty much alone myself, which does get me depressed at times. I don't think any treatment can cure loneliness. Really, the only way to relieve loneliness is to find ways to connect with others. Online connections are kind of flimsy and can't be heavily depended on. We need connections in real life. Making those connections can be tough to do. Socializing is the last thing a depressed person wants to do. I try to force myself, but it is hard. For now, do you have access to any counseling? It won't change your life anytime soon, but it could be a place to start. Keep posting. We are here to listen. I hope you can find the motivation to get up soon. That can be a real challenge. I know because I've been there. |

And sometimes you have to fake it for so long you forget you are faking it. |
