When I was 8 I was invited to go out to some cheap takeout place by a family with 2 salaries and a huge savings jar filled with money for when they would go to Disney World.. My family was pay check to pay check and didn’t take vacations.

The mom asked me if I had money for dinner:

lol. Why would you invite an 8 year old to go out to dinner with you and then not pay for them? This was just some cheap restaurant a stage higher than fast food. My dinner cost about $3

So that other strange family didn’t want to pay for your dinner? If that’s the case, how is this your family’s fault?

Your mom asking if you had money could be for a number of reasons. It’s good to be prepared. You cannot always count on others.

You might also misremember. I remember next to nothing from when I was 8.

I’m not saying it’s my family’s fault. My mom told me this story a couple years ago. And she said the family had asked for money for my dinner either before we left or after we got back.

I am kind of annoyed my mom never sent me with money anywhere or either an a $1 or $2 like she expected people to pay for me for stuff. My dad would just say “grab some money on my dresser” when I would tell him I was going out .

Sorry for the rant but I’d be out at pizza parties at school or McDonald’s with my friends and my mom would ask me to bring something back for my brother and I always said no because I just wanted to enjoy myself and he never knew where I was anyways. So I didn’t know why he had to be involved.

No I wouldn’t have done that when my now adult son was little, it seems very unusual.
